A Comparison of the
WorkPlace Big Five ProFile™ (WB5P) to Other Five
Factor Model Instruments, and Other Trait Measures
Executive Summary
The WorkPlace Big Five ProFile™ (WB5P) is based on the
Five Factor Model of Personality. CentACS launched the
WB5P in response to the following client concerns about
other Big Five assessments:
 |
Most assessments assess personality
for life at large. CentACS clients asked for
a personality assessment designed specifically
for use in the workplace. The WB5P assesses personality
in the workplace and uses workplace terms and
examples in the questions. People taking the
assessment are asked to think about themselves
at work as they answer the questions since most
people report that they are somewhat different
at work than in their lives at-large. Other assessments have questions
that should not be asked, particularly during
the selection process. The WB5P is EEOC compatible.
All questions have been approved by an employment
lawyer. Other assessments have hundreds
of questions and clients dislike the length of
time it takes to complete them. The WB5P has
107 questions and typically takes 10 - 12 minutes
to complete. While many assessments are
taken only on paper, the WB5P survey and report
are available online or it can be taken on paper. |
 |
Other strengths of the WB5P over other instruments include:
 |
The
WB5P is a normative assessment. Results
identify your scores in relation to others
in a norm group. The answers to questions
and resulting supertraits and subtraits
are represented on a continuum. This
is opposite to an ipsative test that
scores someone against themselves, not
others and is based on a forced distribution
of points. Research advises against using
ipsative tests for selection.
The
WB5P is based on the Five Factor Model
of Personality which is now regarded
by the psychological community in the
same way as the Table of Elements has
become the foundation of chemistry.
The
WB5P coefficient alpha, validity, and
reliability are among the highest of
all other assessments.
The
WB5P is the first Five Factor personality
assessment that provides an assessment
of one's "capacity" to perform
a competency as well as another companion
assessment (the WorkPlace 360°™)
that actually measures competency performance.
